White Plains, NY, March 17, 2004 - ConEdison Solutions, an energy services company based in White Plains, New York, has won a two-year contract extension to provide 100% wind power energy to the New York City residence of Kofi Annan, the United Nations Secretary-General.

 

"Green Power" is clean, renewable energy generated in New York State that
is now available to all residential, commercial, industrial and government energy users in New York City, as well as Westchester, Rockland, and Orange counties.

 

The renewal -- awarded through an auction conducted by Brian Magden and Ken Shutika of the United States General Services Administration -- extends a one-year contract that had commenced last April.  The extension runs until April 2006.

Under the agreement, ConEdison Solutions will continue to provide Mr. Annan's residence with energy supplied by non-polluting wind power sources located in upstate New York.  The secretary-general's quarters use about 82,000 kilowatt-hours per year.

 

Secretary-General Annan has a long-established reputation as a supporter of renewable energy and has frequently urged the global community to increase energy efficiency and expand its use of renewable resources.  Under his leadership, the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan now derives ten percent of its overall energy usage from renewable sources.

 

The wind power component of ConEdison Solutions' "Green Power" offering is provided in partnership with Community Energy, Inc., a leading marketer and developer of wind-generated electricity.  Its wind power product, called NewWind Energy®, is supplied by the 30-megawatt Fenner Wind Power Project located east of Syracuse in Madison County.

Recently, ConEdison Solutions and Community Energy Inc. announced that The Durst Organization -- one of New York City's most prominent commercial real estate owners -- had become the state's largest commercial customer of wind power.  The company is buying approximately 10.5 million kilowatt-hours of "Green Power" per year for its 7.5-million-square-foot portfolio of seven high-rise office buildings in Manhattan.
