CON EDISON SOLUTIONS APPLAUDS NEW INDUSTRY STANDARDS
White Plains, NY - September 20, 2006 - ConEdison Solutions, a leading provider of cost-effective energy solutions for commercial, industrial and government customers, today announced that it has assisted in creating, and adopted, a statement of principles for marketing retail energy to residential and small business customers in New York State.
By complying with these guidelines, developed together with a coalition of energy services companies (ESCO’s), ConEdison Solutions reiterates its commitment to provide fair disclosure in marketing energy to customers. While it is mandatory for ESCO’s to comply with the New York Uniform Business Practices, this statement of principles is voluntary and is specifically targeted at preempting many potential concerns customers participating in the deregulated energy market might have. The principles facilitate ongoing cooperation between the retail energy industry, regulators, and customers.

The statement of principles details model conduct for ESCO’s to follow, most importantly that the companies will “protect Customers participating in the deregulated energy market.” Complying ESCO’s must ensure that information about their offerings is “designed to be understood by the customer” and use “reasonable efforts to provide accurate and timely information about services and products.” In addition, the principles outline guidelines for the training of marketing representatives, personal contact with customers and dispute resolution.
