O&R BUSINESSES AND HOUSEHOLDS CAN GO GREEN AND SAVE
Clean Energy Option Costs Less than Standard Electricity Prices

White Plains, NY – Sept. 16, 2009: ConEdison Solutions, one of the nation's leading energy services companies, is now offering clean and renewable "Green Power" to Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) households and small businesses at a price lower than current utility electricity rates. During the month of September 2009, local energy users have an opportunity to lock in a one-year, fixed-price contract for renewable energy while saving up to six percent compared to the utility’s September rate for electricity from conventional sources.

By choosing ConEdison Solutions as their competitive energy supplier, residential and small business customers have the option to select environmentally friendly wind and hydro power as their energy source. ConEdison Solutions’ "Green Power" offering is fully offset by 100 percent renewable resources, consisting of 35 percent wind power and 65 percent run-of-the-river hydro that is generated in the New York region and delivered to the electric grid by Community Energy, Inc.

“We are committed to expanding the use of clean, renewable energy for New Yorkers,” said Michael Perna, Vice President of ConEdison Solutions. "With prices that are lower than standard electricity rates, there couldn’t be a better time to make the switch to environmentally friendly Green Power.”

“Community Energy is proud to partner with ConEdison Solutions in delivering affordable renewable energy options to residential and small business customers,” says Brent Alderfer, President of Community Energy, Inc.

ConEdison Solutions customers can lock-in a one-year contract to purchase Green Power at 9.9 cents per kilowatt hour. By comparison, O&R is charging 10.7 cents per kilowatt hour for energy generated by conventional means such as coal, gas, large hydro, and nuclear power plants. Typically, green power is sold at a premium to conventional energy. O&R’s price varies month by month, while ConEdison Solutions’ price is fixed for the length of the contract, offering protection against a potential rise in energy prices.

Instead of drawing on traditional energy supplies, local residents and businesses purchasing green power contribute pollution-free electricity to the electricity grid, which displaces power that would have otherwise been produced from non-renewable sources. Wind energy creates no harmful air emissions and no greenhouse gases. It also supports domestic energy production because it is generated at wind farms here in the United States.

For a typical O&R residential customer, switching to Green Power is the equivalent of offsetting 8,400 pounds of carbon dioxide per year or not driving your car approximately 8,500 miles. Wind energy is the fastest-growing renewable energy source in the world.

More than 65,000 New Yorkers now receive environmentally friendly electricity from alternate energy suppliers such as ConEdison Solutions, and the number continues to increase. There are no switching fees and no cancellation fees for energy users opting for Green Power. The local utility company continues to deliver the electricity and perform such traditional services as responding to outages and meter reading.

It is quick and easy for households and small businesses to make a positive contribution to the environment by getting a copy of their bill and calling ConEdison Solutions at 1-888-320-8991 to switch to Green Power. Consumers can also visit www.ConEdSolutions.com/CTgreen.
